Crawling into bed now

A rant.

I just got some bad news. Bad, as in financially bad. Not super bad, but really not that great.
We are going on Vacation in two weeks, and since we always drive there, I always have my brakes checked before we go. Last year, I paid some shop more than $400 to have the pads and rotors replaced. This year, a different shop (looking at the van this morning) just called DH to tell us that the rotors in the front are already bad again, and we will need new ones. DH's passive aggressive response was to just not do it, but with three or four kids and us in the car, going over a mountain pass, that just doesn't sound like the thing to do.
So, I am trying to suck up my bad attitude. We will just have to pay it. Leaving us with very, very little money to actually spend on the vacation, but, what else is new?

DH and I both felt disconnected from each other this morning, even though we had great sex last night, and again this morning, and still, we are not quite synced right. I even got a spanking last night, but I think my problem was that I wanted more than he gave me. He keeps thinking he will mark me, and he really doesn't want to do that. I want to be submissive, and let him decide how far we go, but at the same time, a spanking that is stopped right when you start to feel the burn is just awful.
Plus, of course, don't forget the circus. I don't think either one of us wants to do any "hardcore" spanking with the circus in our house. So at the beginning of the week, I looked at hotel rooms with Jacuzzis to see if we could maybe sneak away for a night and day, where it is just us. But with the brakes, it seems we have found some more important place to put our money.

  1. Sorry to hear that Julia...

Unexpected money drains can be so frustrating, I know we have had a few of our own these last few months too and they are never pleasant.

I hope your vacation is still a good one.

    1. Yeah, very frustrating, and I know we are not the only people it happens too. Sometimes it just feels like it though.

I have my car back now and I can tell a difference, so that is awesome, and I can just try and let go of it and enjoy my vacation.
Thank you for your kind words.

    2. I didn't want to take away from yourself and make it about me, I just meant that I feel your pain as we have been through the same thing.

Glad to read you're feeling better!

  3. Ugh. I hear you. I lost several months' worth of salary taking care of medical and other not-at-all-fun-but-necessary expenses this year. :( I sure hope that this time around you get your money's worth.

Hope you still enjoy your vacation.

  4. I never went on vacation with any money when the kids were little; we were broke, and always had to search out free stuff to do, like days on the beach, blackberry picking, then making a pie, swimming in the sea, walks along the canals looking at the boats, mini beast hunting in the forest, swing parks, walks in the country looking for as many different flowers as possible... those were the days!!!
And, do you know, it's the damnedest thing, but the kids had more fun doing that stuff than when we finally got some money together and took them to theme parks!!! Have a great holiday. xxx

    1. Thank you for your kind words. Usually that is what we do anyway, because I don't like taking them to theme parks, but this year, we were looking forward to at least having the option, iykwim.

      xxx :D

    1. I am sorry to hear about your car problems too Adaline. Totally sucks! Mine is working like a champ again, so I am glad we were actually able to pay it, even if that means tightening the belt now.
I hope you have a great vacation anyway!

I feel you on the spanking not being quite enough problem, too... even with leaving marks, I haven't quite gotten there yet...

  9. Sorry about the lack of vacation money because of car repairs. You know though what the kids will remember is the time spent together. Make it special and fun and that's what they will remember years from now. Enjoy the relaxation time.

  10. Oh yuck! We took my car in for it's yearly registration check (about $40) and came out with a $950 bill. It was also just before vacation and not one bit funny.

We too had to cut corners during vacation and one little thing we did was instead of eating out for lunch we made sandwiches and then bought ice cream. It makes me grin to think about it b/c it was so much fun to wander around different towns with the big intent of finding the best and cheapest one scoop cone. You WILL find a way to make this fun for your family too but it sure is hard to change our expectations.

    1. OMG, $950? That is crazy? Did you have to get emissions checked or something? And then fixed?

  11. I'm sure we've all been there with the money worries. It can be so stressful. Hopefully just being able to get away from it all will help you feel a bit better so you make sure to have a great time ok! :)
